The Dallas Mavericks will be without their rookie sensation Cooper Flagg for tonight’s cross-conference matchup against the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center. According to the team’s official injury report released on February 24, 2026, Flagg has been ruled out due to a persistent left midfoot sprain.
This will be the fourth consecutive game that the 2025’s No. 1 overall pick has missed since sustaining the injury earlier this month in a clash against Phoenix Suns.
The All-Star weekend did provide a window for recovery, but despite that break, the Mavericks organization is not taking any chances with their rookie star and has opted to keep him sidelined. With the team currently sitting at 12th in the West Conference with a 20-36 record, Cooper has emerged as the franchise’s offensive cornerstone, and for them, Flagg’s long-term health takes precedence over late-season positioning.

On February 10, Mavericks travelled all the way to the Mortgage Matchup Center to lock horns against the Phoenix Suns. Along with a 111-120 loss, the Mavs faced another obstacle as their rookie star Cooper Flagg sustained a left foot sprain. Despite the injury, he dropped 27 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists in 36 minutes.
For the upcoming Tuesday night’s game against Nets (15-41), Flagg is listed on the IR and will be sidelined.
His absence will surely leave a significant void in the Mavericks’ rotation as the 19-year-old forward has been putting up historic numbers for a rookie. Flagg is slowly understanding his primary role in Mavs’ offensive schemes, and appeared in 49 games so far and has led Dallas with an average of 20. 4 points, 6. 6 rebounds, and 4. 1 assists per game. Though the shooting efficiency has been a challenging spot, Flagg has maintained 48. 2% field percentage and 80. 4% from the free-throw line.
Cooper not only missed his first Rising Stars Game but due to the left foot sprain, the race for 2026 NBA Rookie of the Year award has also strengthened. While Flagg remains the favorite, his odds have recently shifted from -650 to -450 as competitors like Hornets’ Kon Knueppel are also gaining momentum and putting on spectacular performances.

The Mavericks will next face Sacramento Kings on Thursday, and though medical analysts suggest midfoot sprains typically require a 20-day recovery period, Cooper Flagg’s availability will remain uncertain.
