Tata has launched the updated Punch.ev in India at a starting price of Rs 9.69 lakh (ex-showroom), marking the first major update to its smallest electric SUV. The refreshed model brings subtle styling changes, an expanded battery line-up, improved real-world range, and feature enhancements aimed at making entry-level EV ownership more practical and accessible.
Offered in three variants: Smart, Adventure and Empowered, the Punch.ev continues to target urban buyers while now promising improved intercity usability. Bookings are open, with deliveries expected to commence shortly.
Price
The Punch.ev facelift is priced between Rs 9.69 lakh and Rs 12.59 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on the variant and battery pack. Tata has positioned the updated EV closer to price parity with comparable ICE-powered offerings in the entry-level segment.
In a move to further reduce the upfront acquisition cost, Tata is also offering a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option. Under this model, the Punch.ev can be purchased at a starting price of Rs 6.49 lakh, with a separate battery subscription charged at Rs 2.6 per kilometre. This alternative financing structure is aimed at lowering the barrier to entry for first-time EV buyers.
Notably, the base variant of the facelifted Punch.ev is now Rs 30,000 more affordable than the outgoing version.
Exterior design
The updated Punch.ev receives subtle but noticeable design revisions, while retaining its EV-specific cues. Up front, it gets a revised bumper with a cleaner look and a closed-off grille. The earlier black trim strip connecting the headlamps has been removed, giving the fascia a more streamlined appearance.
The signature Y-shaped LED daytime running lamps and the centrally mounted charging flap remain unchanged. The side profile is enhanced by new 16-inch aero-optimised alloy wheels inspired by larger Tata EVs, contributing to improved efficiency.
At the rear, the facelift introduces connected LED tail-lamps, aligning it visually with the updated ICE-powered Punch. The SUV maintains a ground clearance of 195mm and offers a water-wading capacity of 450mm, retaining its practical urban-SUV credentials.
Three new exterior colour options are available, all paired with a contrasting black roof.
Interior design and features
Inside, the Punch.ev facelift retains the familiar dashboard layout and dual-tone theme, now complemented by revised trim finishes. The cabin continues to focus on functionality, while higher variants receive upgraded technology.
Top trims are equipped with a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch fully digital driver’s display. Features such as wireless charging, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, connected car technology and a 360-degree camera are offered depending on the variant.
The Punch.ev also integrates Tata’s connected ecosystem, allowing users to access charging information and vehicle data via the IRA.ev app. The app enables real-time charger availability checks and end-to-end payment integration across Tata’s growing public charging network.
Battery and range
A key highlight of the update is the introduction of a new 40kWh battery pack. This larger battery delivers an ARAI-certified (P1+P2) range of 468km and a claimed C75 real-world range of approximately 355km, making it suitable for both daily commuting and short intercity drives.
The Punch.ev also continues with a 30kWh battery option, rated at 365km (ARAI). Both battery packs are paired with a front-mounted electric motor, with the 40kWh variants producing 129bhp and driving the front wheels.
Fast-charging capability remains a strong point. Using a 65kW DC fast charger, the battery can be charged from 20 to 80 percent in 26 minutes. Tata claims that a 15-minute charge can add up to 135km of real-world range.
The new Punch.ev comes with a lifetime high-voltage battery warranty covering unlimited kilometres, aimed at addressing long-term ownership concerns around battery durability.
Tata.ev states that its charging ecosystem now spans over 2.3 lakh charging points across 1,500 cities, including more than 30,000 public chargers aggregated through partnerships with over 30 charge point operators. The company also highlights its ‘.ev Verified’ network of over 2,500 curated fast chargers across 500 cities and towns, along with 450+ charging points across 130+ mega charging hubs on 80 highways, with expansion plans underway.
Safety
Safety equipment on the Punch.ev facelift includes six airbags as standard across variants. It is also equipped with electronic stability control, hill-hold assist, a tyre-pressure monitoring system and ISOFIX child-seat mounts.
Additional driver assistance features include high beam assist and a 360-degree camera on higher trims, enhancing both active safety and parking convenience.
Rivals and positioning
In the Indian market, the Punch.ev continues to rival the Citroen eC3, while sitting above the Tata Tiago EV and below the Tata Nexon EV in Tata’s electric portfolio.
With revised pricing, an expanded battery range and a lifetime battery warranty, the updated Punch.ev aims to further strengthen its position as a gateway electric SUV for mainstream Indian buyers.
