Anubhav Sinha on Ra.One 2 hopes and SRK’s availability: It’s a 3-year marriage

Director Anubhav Sinha opened up about his plans to make a sequel to Ra.One (2011). He also expressed his interest in checking for actor Shah Rukh Khan’s dates for the film.

Sinha, in an interview with Prabhat Khabar said, “Ra One 2 ka ye hai mera bhi bada mann hai Ra One 2 ko banane me lagenge 2-3 saal. 2-3 saal ki lambi shaadi hai wo. To main zara, thoda sa khaali ho jau. Phir sochta hu ki wo teen saal tab main zindagi me lagana chahta hu aur uss wakt Khan sahab available hai ki nahi hai. Kyuki Khan sabah bhi to lage hue hai ek ke baad ek, ek ke baad ek (I also really want to make Ra.One 2. Making it would take two to three years; it’s like a long, two-to-three-year marriage. So, let me get a little free first. Then, I’ll think about whether I want to commit those three years of my life to it and if Khan Saab (Shah Rukh Khan) is available at that time. Because Khan Saab is also busy with one project after another, one after the other).”

Back in 2011, the release of the film was considered a major gamble. At a time when superhero stories were uncommon in the industry, the decision to merge high-tech visual effects with gaming culture and a family-oriented heart was a daring move.

The movie pushed forward with an ambitious vision, fully supported by the star’s unwavering commitment. It sought to blend advanced VFX with traditional Indian sensibilities, delivering a local superhero narrative driven by both technology and emotion.

Though the movie did not reach the massive box office figures expected of its scale, it carved out a lasting cultural niche. Its music and visual creativity still resonate today, frequently finding fresh appreciation among a new generation of digital-native fans.

Sinha recently directed Assi, featuring actors Taapsee Pannu, Kani Kusruti, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, Revathy, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Supriya Pathak and others in key roles.

India Today, in its review of the film, wrote, “You may walk out debating the film’s craft, its choices, even its tone. What is harder to debate is the reality it gestures toward. Because somewhere, every twenty minutes, another story begins or ends.”
