Capcom’s upcoming survival horror title Resident Evil Requiem is just a few weeks away from the release, and details about its PS5 download size and preload timing have surfaced ahead of launch. While Capcom has only officially confirmed the February 27, 2026 release date, backend listings spotted by PlayStation tracking accounts have revealed how much storage space players will need and when they can begin downloading the game.
Resident Evil Requiem PS5 download size revealed
According to rumors shared online, Resident Evil Requiem will require 72.88 GB of storage space on PS5 at launch. If accurate, this makes it the largest Resident Evil title ever at release, even before any DLC or optional high-resolution texture packs are added.
The PS5 version of Resident Evil 4 Remake launched at around 58 to 67 GB (depending on updates) while on the other hand Resident Evil Village was significantly smaller at roughly 27 GB on day one. The increase in file size could mean that the game has more complex environments, better textures, bigger areas, or more information.
Some fans have speculated that the large install size may hint at extra modes being included at launch (possibly something similar to the popular Mercenaries mode).
However, Capcom has not officially confirmed any bonus modes yet.
Release date for PS5 players
The preload window for Resident Evil Requiem is reportedly set to begin on February 25, 2026, two days before launch. This means PS5 players who pre-order the Standard Edition will be able to download the full game in advance and jump in immediately at release.
The game is expected to unlock at midnight on February 27, 2026, though global release timings have not yet been officially detailed by Capcom.
Preloading will be especially helpful for players with slower internet connections, given the nearly 73 GB file size.
The game will launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. Early reports indicate that pre-orders have been stronger than expected, with the game ranking among the most wishlisted titles on Steam ahead of release.
With its return to a post-apocalyptic Raccoon City setting and the longest development gap between mainline entries in the franchise, expectations are high.
The larger install size may reflect the game’s expanded scope and visual upgrades compared to previous entries.
In the next several days, Capcom should give us more official information about the final file size and exact unlock times. For now, PS5 owners might want to make some room on their consoles and get ready for what could be the biggest Resident Evil game yet.
