Born in Florence in 1940, Cavalli studied textile printing and launched his brand in the early 1970s. His innovative technique of printing on leather and his signature exotic animal patterns on denim revolutionised fashion. This bold, luxurious aesthetic made him a favourite among A-list celebrities like , Beyoncé, and the Kardashians.

The Roberto Cavalli house was acquired by private equity firm Vision Investment Co. LLC in 2023.
