Verizon Nationwide Outage Disrupts Calls and Data Services

Major Verizon Outage Disrupts Calls and Data Across the US

Key Takeaways:

  • Verizon Wireless customers nationwide faced a major service disruption on Tuesday morning.
  • Over 70,000 outage reports were logged, primarily on the East Coast but affecting other regions.
  • The company has acknowledged the issue but has not provided a cause or restoration timeline.

A widespread Verizon outage crippled calling, texting, and mobile data services for customers across the United States on Tuesday. The disruption began in the early morning hours, leaving users unable to connect.

Scale and Impact of the Disruption

Outage tracking site Downdetector recorded a dramatic spike in reports starting around 6:30 AM ET. Incidents peaked at over 70,000 by 8:00 AM ET. While the East Coast was hardest hit, major metropolitan areas from the Midwest to the West Coast also reported significant problems.

The outage affected both personal and business accounts, with users completely unable to make or receive calls, send texts, or use cellular data.

Verizon’s Response and Ongoing Issues

Verizon acknowledged the problem on its support account on X (formerly Twitter). The company stated, “Some customers are experiencing issues this morning when calling or texting. We are currently working to resolve the issue.”

However, the telecom giant has not disclosed the cause of the nationwide failure or provided an estimated time for full service restoration.

Context and Regulatory Attention

This incident follows a massive AT&T network outage in February, which was attributed to a software update error and affected tens of thousands for hours.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has been contacted for comment. The agency routinely monitors major telecommunications service disruptions.

What Customers Can Do

Affected customers are advised to switch to Wi-Fi calling if their device and location support it. For updates, monitor Verizon’s official support channels.
