Union Home Minister and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah announced on Monday that the government will establish urban cooperative banks in all cities with populations exceeding 2 lakh within the next five years.

The significant announcement came during Shah’s address at the international conference on urban cooperative credit sector – Co-Op Kumbh 2025 – held in the national capital.

Shah emphasized that the conference, coinciding with the International Year of Cooperatives, would play a crucial role in developing a comprehensive roadmap to scale and modernize India’s cooperative banking ecosystem.

The minister revealed that the ‘Delhi Declaration 2025’ would serve as a strategic blueprint for expanding and strengthening Urban Cooperative Banks across the country, marking a significant step toward financial inclusion and cooperative sector development.
