Late Kannada superstar Puneeth has held a special place in the hearts of millions. After his untimely demise four years ago, the audience would get to experience a glimpse of him as he is set to return to the big screens in an animated avatar through the upcoming web series ‘Maarigallu’.
The makers of ‘Maarigallu’ recently unveiled its first teaser, narrated by actor Dhananjaya, in an animated world that brings
Puneeth Rajkumar back to life. The standout moment from the teaser is the recreated image of Puneeth as Mayura Sharma, the founder of the Kadamba dynasty and Karnataka’s first king. The character has been brought to life using AI and animation technology.
A story of mystery and adventure
In the teaser of 1 minute 16 seconds, a world of mystique filled with adventure has been introduced. It opens with a place that has peace and prosperity, which is Vaijayanthipura. Set in Sirsi during the 1990s, ‘Maarigallu’ follows a tale that begins with the discovery of an ancient clue linked to a lost Kadamba-era treasure.

The series features a strong ensemble cast, including Rangayana Raghu, Gopal Krishna Deshpande, and Praveen Tej, who are making their web series debuts. They are joined by television actors Ninaad Hrithsa, Prashanth Siddi, and A. S. Suraj in this Kannada culture folklore.
In a post shared by the team on X (formerly Twitter), the cast and crew were seen posing with a bouquet of flowers in front of Puneeth’s portrait, celebrating his memory and the spirit. The caption read, “All set to ‘ಮಾರಿಗಲ್ಲು’ — PRK Productions’ new milestone… Coming soon on ZEE5 Kannada.”

Directed and written by Devraj Poojary, with cinematography by S. K. Rao, music by L. V. Muthu and L. V. Ganesh, and sound design by Ravi Hiremath. It will be released on October 31.
