Karisma Kapoor’s children call Priya Kapur an ‘evil Cinderella mother’, accuse her of ‘scheming’, ‘forgery’

The inheritance battle over late Sona Comstar Chairman Sunjay Kapur‘s assets has intensified as heated allegations of forgery and conspiracy dominated the recent hearing. However, what captured everyone’s attention is the accusation by Karisma Kapoor’s children that they were given a ‘Cinderella stepmother’ treatment by Priya Kapur.

On Thursday, during the Delhi HC hearing of the petition, appearing before Justice Jyoti Singh, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing Karisma Kapoor’s children – Samaira and Kiaan Kapoor, alleged that Priya Kapur had behaved like “an evil Cinderella mother” to kids, scheming to sideline them and their grandmother Rani Kapur, while moving assets and power for the benefit of her own household.

Children made targets of kidnapper: Jethmalani

According to Bar and Bench, Jethmalani said that Priya Kapur and her minor son control nearly 75% share of the trust while Kapoor’s two children are left with 26%. The senior advocate also criticised Kapur for publicly saying that her late husband’s children received Rs 2,000 cr, making them a target for kidnappers. “These children are made targets of any kidnapper,” he said.

Emails presented in court showed Kapur telling the plaintiffs that money was being given to them while not fully disclosing details. She was given roughly 60% of the assets, approximately 12% to her son, and 75% of the trust.

Sunjay had no role in the will: Lawyer

Calling the will “a manifestly forged document” told Justice Singh that the actor’s children were not informed about the will until July 30, even though the same had been executed on March 21.

Jethmalani alleged that Sunjay “had no role in his own will” and that the digital evidence and travel logs proved the industrialist was on holiday with his son Kiaan between March 15 and 18, 2025, when the document was supposedly modified.

“The will was altered on March 17 at 11:54 am, when Sunjay Kapur was not even in the city. His digital footprints are missing, replaced by those of the conspirators, including Priya Kapur,” Jethmalani told the court. “It is a serious crime under Section 467 of the Indian Penal Code, which prescribes life imprisonment for forgery of a will.

“The assertion that the will was modified while the testator was away with his son is legally significant. When such allegations are supported by an affidavit from the testator’s close kin and contextualised by evidence of marital discord, they lend considerable weight to claims of undue influence or forgery. Courts will generally adopt a cautious stance, prioritising the protection of the legitimate heirs’ interests until a full forensic examination is concluded,” Rahul R Shelke, Civil Lawyer, Bombay High Court, expert in succession cases told Financial Express.com

The purported will dated March 21, 2025 allegedly bequeaths Sunjay Kapur’s entire personal estate to his third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, leaving out his two children with Karisma Kapoor. The kids have challenged the authenticity of the will in the court.

Priya Kapur’s asset list had no signature; court directs her to re-file it

Justice Singh, after opening the sealed cover that contained the original document and an asset list, observed that the list bore no signature, and directed Priya Kapur to re-file it with an affidavit. The court will continue hearing Jethmalani’s arguments on October 13 before the defence presents its case.
