Hollywood stars Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are set to be honoured with the Robin Williams Legacy of Laughter Award. The recognition brings their journey full circle with the late Robin Williams, who played a defining role in their early careers, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The award will be presented at the Revels & Revelations Celebration on April 27 in San Francisco, making the moment emotional, especially given their long-standing connection with Williams. Adding a deeply personal touch, the award will be presented by Williams’ children – Zak, Zelda, and Cody Williams.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the honour celebrates individuals whose work reflects the power of storytelling and human connection to inspire change.
The event is organised by Bring Change to Mind, a non-profit founded by actor Glenn Close, and will take place at the Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture.
Reflecting on the honour, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon shared a joint statement with The Hollywood Reporter, stating that Robin Williams was not just someone they admired, but someone who made their dreams come true. They said they owed everything to him, as he agreed to be part of their film, which ultimately got made.
They added that receiving the Legacy of Laughter Award, created in his honour, was incredibly meaningful to them, noting that his legacy was not only about his immense talent and ability to make the world laugh, but also about how deeply he cared. They further said that the honour carries his spirit and means everything to them.
The trio’s connection dates back to the iconic film, Good Will Hunting, directed by Gus Van Sant. The film not only earned Affleck and Damon an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay but also won Williams an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, cementing its place as a landmark moment in their careers.
The upcoming honour serves as both a celebration of their achievements and a heartfelt tribute to the legacy of Robin Williams, whose influence continues to resonate in Hollywood and beyond.
