Microsoft has announced it will shut down the Outlook Lite app for Android on May 25, 2026. The lightweight email app, designed for users with lower-powered devices, will lose all mailbox access on that date, forcing users to switch to the more feature-rich Outlook Mobile app.
According to a report by Neowin, After May 25, the app will no longer work. While you will be able to open the app, it will no longer allow access to emails, calendars, or attachments. Microsoft had already blocked new downloads of Outlook Lite since October 6, 2025, to prevent more users from using the app.
The report states, “Microsoft has locked in (the) final death date for Outlook Lite on Android” as the company “shifts its focus to the feature-rich Outlook Mobile.”
What does this mean for you?
Outlook Lite was created to serve Android users with entry-level smartphones or limited network connectivity. However, Microsoft is now consolidating its mobile offerings around Outlook Mobile, which provides broader mailbox support and better compliance features. The Outlook Mobile app also has deeper integration with Microsoft 365 services.
If you are using this app, you are advised to migrate to Outlook Mobile to maintain seamless access to your emails and calendar items. Microsoft recommends using the Upgrade option within Outlook Lite, which directs users to the Google Play Store to download Outlook Mobile. Alternatively, users can manually install the app and sign in with their existing account to restore access to all data.
Microsoft states that users will be able to access “all existing email, calendar items, and attachments” on Outlook Mobile.
Do note that the app was only available for Android, with no dedicated Outlook Lite app for iOS.
Microsoft has confirmed that user accounts will not be deleted or disabled during this transition. IT administrators do not need to take any special action but are encouraged to update internal documentation and guide employees to switch to Outlook Mobile to avoid disruptions.
