Apple iPhone Fold RAM, storage, chip, and price details leak ahead of expected launch in September

Apple is reportedly working on its first foldable device — the iPhone Fold — which is expected to debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max in September this year. The device is expected to use a book-style folding design on the lines of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. Coincidentally, the launch, if at all it happens, would be in the same year Apple completes its 50-years.

As is often the case, leaks have been swirling around its upcoming folbable, giving us a good picture of what could in the offing from Apple. Joining the rumour mills is a new report from The Bell which has leaked the amount and type of RAM Apple is expected to put inside the iPhone Fold, or whatever it decides to call it. According to the report, the iPhone Fold is said to come with 12GB of RAM, like Apple’s existing Pro models, such as iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. Apple is reportedly sourcing its 12GB LPDDR5X RAM from Samsung.

Meanwhile. tipster Instant Digital suggests the iPhone Fold may come in three storage configurations: 256GB, 512GB and 1TB. The tipster has also suggested ball-park pricing in China. According to the leak, the base 256GB variant may be priced at 15,999 yuan (around Rs 2,15,277), the mid-tier 512GB variant at 17,999 yuan (around Rs 2,42,259), and the top-end 1TB configuration at 19,999 yuan (around Rs 2,69,139).

iPhone Fold expected specs and features

The iPhone Fold is expected to feature an inner folding screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio, giving it a wider form factor compared to rivals like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7. Despite this, the device is said to be relatively compact, with a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch inner screen. Both panels are expected to be AMOLED.

Apple is said to be skipping Face ID on the iPhone Fold. It may have a Touch ID sensor embedded in the power button. The displays are expected to feature cutouts solely for the cameras. The device is also rumoured to come with a dual rear camera setup.

The iPhone Fold may have an A20 Pro chipset. It is also said to power the iPhone 18 Pro.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is planning to introduce new multitasking features in iOS — likely with the iOS 27 update — specifically tailored to enhance the iPhone Fold experience. The iPhone Fold is expected to make its debut in September 2026.
