‘Your wife is Indian’: US rep Brandon Gill faces backlash over anti-immigration post

American politician Brandon Gill has sparked sharp criticism online after making an anti-immigration remark on social media. Taking to X, the Congressman representing Texas’ 26th Congressional District argued that immigration is not inherently beneficial simply because it is legal.

“Immigration isn’t “good” just because it is legal,” he wrote in the post, which quickly gained traction and drew widespread backlash.

Social media users were quick to highlight what they described as a contradiction — noting that Gill’s own wife comes from an immigrant background. He married conservative author Danielle D’Souza in 2017. D’Souza, born in Mumbai, India is the daughter of prominent conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza, who is of Indian descent.

“Your father-in-law was born in Maharashtra, India and immigrated to the US in 1978,” one user wrote.

“Your wife is Indian,” reminded another while many pointed out that Gill would not have been married and had his family, if immigration were not allowed.

“So why would you marry an immigrant?” questioned another user.

Danielle D’Souza Gill is an American author, commentator and conservative activist. A Dartmouth College graduate, she has been actively involved with the Women for Trump coalition and has appeared on networks like Fox News and Newsmax.

Despite his personal ties to an immigrant family, Gill, who represents Texas’ 26th Congressional District has remained consistent in his stance. Back in June 2025, the Republican representative had posted images on X comparing California in the 1960s to the present. “California in 1960 vs California today. Mass migration has made America unrecognisable,” he wrote.

In March of the same year, he trashed “multiculturalism” claiming it would tear America apart. “Multiculturalism will tear our country apart,” the American politician posted on X, drawing similar reminders about his wife’s immigrant roots both times.
