The United States military on Monday announced the total destruction of Iran’s elite force, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) headquarters in Tehran, describing the operation as having “cut off the head of the snake”.
“The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) killed more than 1,000 Americans over the past 47 years. Yesterday, a large-scale U.S. strike cut off the head of the snake,” the US Central Command (Centcom) posted on social media.
The IRGC, an elite branch of Iran’s armed forces established after the 1979 Islamic Revolution to safeguard the country’s Islamic system, had been strengthened under Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and operated directly under his authority.
“America has the most powerful military on earth, and the IRGC no longer has a headquarters,” the US Army added.
Centcom has also posted a video showing the strike on the IRGC headquarters, with a missile fired from a frigate destroying buildings in a single major strike.
