The shooting took place early Sunday at Willie’s Bar and Grill on St. Helena Island. Sheriff’s deputies arrived to find a large crowd and multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds.

“Multiple victims and witnesses ran to the nearby businesses and properties seeking shelter from the gun shots,” the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement on the social media platform X.

“This is a tragic and difficult incident for everyone. We ask for your patience as we continue to investigate this incident. Our thoughts are with all of the victims and their loved ones,” the statement said.

Victims and Response

Four people were pronounced dead at the scene, while at least 20 others sustained injuries. Among the injured, four remain in critical condition at area hospitals. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims.

U.S. Representative Nancy Mace expressed her reaction to the tragedy on social media.

“COMPLETELY HEARTBROKEN to learn about the devastating shooting in Beaufort County,” U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace posted on X. “Our prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone impacted by this horrific act of violence.”

The investigation into the shooting continues as the community grapples with the aftermath of this violent incident.
