Diane Goodstein house fire: How big and expensive was the South Carolina judge’s residence that burned to the ground?

The Edisto Beach home of South Carolina Circuit Court judge Diane Goodstein went up in flames on Saturday (October 4, 2025) while her husband former S.C. senator Arnold Goodstein was trapped inside along with two additional occupants. Goodstein’s waterfront home, which burned to the ground, had four-bedroom, four bathrooms and was worth $1,155,200 home stretching up three stories, according to Daily Mail. The house went up in smoke at around 11.30 AM on Saturday .

According to a message sent on Saturday afternoon (October 4, 2025) from S.C. chief justice John Kittredge, the fire stemmed from an “apparent explosion… that resulted in a fire that destroyed the home,” according to FITSNEWS. “Her husband, Arnie, was in the house with children and perhaps grandchildren. The family had to escape by jumping from a window or balcony. I’m told there were injuries from the fall, such as broken legs,” the message further stated.

Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) launches probe

Law enforcement are investigating the cause of the devastating blaze. Agents of the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) are investigating the massive house fire. “SLED is investigating a house fire in Colleton County,” agency public information director Renée Wunderlich told FITSNews. “The investigation is active and ongoing. More information may be available as the investigation continues.”

Diane Goodstein, 69, had been walking on a beach with her dogs at the time of the incident, Peterson said. The individuals were reached by emergency workers in kayaks, according to the St. Paul’s Fire District.

Arnold was airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston after he appeared to have sustained multiple broken bones in his hips, legs, and feet following his fall, FitsNews, citing sources close to Goodstein’s family. The condition of all three escapees wasn’t immediately known.

South Carolina native Judge Diane Goodstein and her husband, Arnold, share two children, Arnold Samuel Goodstein II and Eve Schafer Goodstein.
