Xbox Cloud Gaming Launches in India – Play Console Games on Phone

Microsoft Launches Xbox Cloud Gaming in India

Microsoft has officially launched Xbox Cloud Gaming in India, allowing gamers to play console and PC titles directly on their phones, tablets, and smart TVs without expensive hardware.

Key Takeaways

  • Play Xbox games instantly on phones, PCs, and smart TVs via cloud streaming
  • Requires Xbox Game Pass subscription starting at Rs 499/month
  • Works with various controllers and requires 10Mbps internet speed

What is Xbox Cloud Gaming?

Xbox Cloud Gaming enables users to stream and play any Game Pass title directly through their web browser. The service eliminates the need for powerful gaming hardware, making high-end games accessible to everyone.

Compatible Devices

The service supports smartphones (Android and iOS), PCs (Windows, Mac, Chromebooks), and smart TVs from LG and Samsung. You can also use Amazon Fire TV Stick, with handheld device support coming soon.

How to Get Started

To access Xbox Cloud Gaming, you need an Xbox Game Pass subscription. All tiers, including the Essential plan at Rs 499 per month, include cloud gaming access.

You’ll need a compatible device, a controller (wired or wireless including Xbox Wireless or Sony DualSense), and a stable internet connection with at least 10Mbps download speed. Some games also support touchscreen controls.

Hands-On Experience

During the launch event, India Today Tech tested the service and reported smooth gameplay while playing titles like NFS Unbound and Hogwarts Legacy.

To begin playing, simply visit Xbox.com/play and log in with your Xbox account. You can browse the entire Game Pass library or stream games you own through the “Stream Your Own Game” feature.

Microsoft’s India Strategy

Microsoft positions Xbox Cloud Gaming as a major commitment to the Indian market, specifically targeting younger, mobile-first audiences. The service makes premium gaming accessible without requiring console purchases or high-end PCs.

To promote adoption, Microsoft will partner with retail giants Samsung and LG for in-store demos and collaborate with content creators to showcase cloud gaming capabilities.

Global Expansion

This India launch follows Microsoft’s broader global expansion, including the recent partnership with Asus for ROG Xbox Ally series – the first Xbox-branded handhelds. The company plans to bring Xbox Fullscreen Experience to additional handheld devices in the future.
