Meta is building AI version of Mark Zuckerberg to speak and respond like real CEO

Meta is developing a photorealistic, artificial-intelligence-powered 3D version of its chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg. This AI avatar is reportedly being designed to interact with employees on his behalf. According to a report by the Financial Times, the project is part of Meta’s wider effort to rebuild itself around AI and develop what Zuckerberg has described as “personal superintelligence.”

The AI avatar is being built to mirror Zuckerberg’s appearance, voice, tone, and communication style. It is being trained using publicly available statements, his mannerisms, and his recent thinking on company strategy.

Zuckerberg is said to be personally involved in training and testing the AI version of himself. The aim is for the digital avatar to hold conversations, answer questions, and offer feedback, giving employees a sense of direct access to the CEO even when he is not present.

The initiative is being led by Meta’s newly formed Superintelligence Labs, which has been working on photorealistic AI characters capable of real-time interaction. The technology relies on heavy computing resources to generate lifelike movement and speech while minimising delays in conversation. As part of this effort, Meta has also been working on improving voice realism, following its acquisitions of voice-AI companies PlayAI and WaveForms last year.

The AI Zuckerberg is being trained using a large collection of images and voice recordings of the Meta chief. If the experiment proves successful, Meta plans to extend the underlying technology to creators and influencers, enabling them to build their own AI avatars. This would expand on the company’s existing “AI Studio,” which already allows creators to build digital personas that interact with followers.

Meta also creating CEO Agent

Notably, the development of the Zuckerberg AI avatar is separate from another internal project: a “CEO agent” designed to help Zuckerberg perform his role more efficiently. As reported by the Wall Street Journal last month, that system is focused on helping him retrieve information quickly and reduce reliance on layers of management, enabling faster decision-making.

The move comes as Meta increasingly pushes employees to integrate AI into their daily work. The company is encouraging teams to use agentic tools such as OpenClaw to automate tasks and improve productivity. Staff are also being invited to participate in a new AI-focused “skills baseline exercise,” which includes a technical system design test and a “vibe coding” exercise.

According to the FT report, Zuckerberg himself is spending five to ten hours a week coding on AI projects and attending technical reviews. Meanwhile, the CEO has made AI a top priority across the company as Meta competes with rivals in building advanced AI models and products.
