This is the second time Altman’s house has been attacked. Two days ago, a 20-year-old man named Daniel Alejandro Moreno-Gama allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at the metal gate of Altman’s home. Following the Molotov attack, Sam Altman had said that he did not wish his family to be targeted, by sharing a picture of his husband and son in a blog post.

Previous attack on Sam Altman’s home
This incident comes just days after Daniel Alejandro Moreno-Gama allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at the metal gate of Altman’s property. At the time, the fire was quickly extinguished by security guards, and the event was recorded on surveillance cameras.
Moreno-Gama was arrested near OpenAI’s headquarters in San Francisco after reportedly making threats to set the building on fire. He was booked on suspicion of attempted murder, arson, possession or manufacture of an incendiary device, and other charges. No injuries were reported in either attack.
Sam Altman says don’t attack family
Altman had responded to the Molotov cocktail attack with a blog post, insisting that his family should not be targeted. He shared a photo of his husband and child and wrote, “in the hopes that it might dissuade the next person from throwing a Molotov cocktail at our house, no matter what they think about me.”
Sam Altman is married to Australian software engineer Oliver Mulherin. The two welcomed a baby boy in February 2025.
The OpenAI chief claimed that he was warned that he could be subjected to such attacks previously. Altman wrote, “Someone said to me yesterday they thought it was coming at a time of great anxiety about AI and that it made things more dangerous for me.” He added, “I brushed it aside.”
He acknowledged mistakes and conflicts within OpenAI, expressing regret for the impact on colleagues and the company. He added, “ I am sorry to people I’ve hurt and wish I had learned more faster.”
In the same post, Altman addressed allegations made in an article by The New Yorker. He called the article “incendiary,” stating that he underestimated the power of words and narratives.
