Apple launches MacBook Air with M5 chip in India, price starts at Rs 1,19,900

Apple has announced the new MacBook Air with the M5 chipset. The device was launched as part of a string of announcements ahead of the company’s March 4 special experience event.

The new M5 MacBook is said to bring notable performance improvements, compared to the M4 model. Here is what’s new.

M5 MacBook Air full specs and features

The M5 chipset headlines the MacBook Air launch. The processor on the device boasts a faster 10-core CPU and a next-generation GPU. Each core of the GPU has a Neural Accelerator, aimed at handling complex AI tasks.

According to Apple, the new device is up to 4 times faster in AI tasks compared to the M4 version, while being up to 9.5 times faster than the M1 MacBook Air.

Apart from the chipset, Apple has upgraded the base storage. The M5 MacBook Air comes with 512GB in the base model, with up to 4TB on offer. The new SSD is claimed to be up to 2 times faster compared to the previous generation.

The new MacBook Air used Apple’s N1 wireless chip for connectivity. It also gets a 12-megapixel centre stage camera for video calls.

The M5 MacBook Air will come in two screen sizes – 13.6-inches and 15.3-inches. Both displays are Liquid Retina panels with up to 500 bits of brightness.

Though do note that the design of the MacBook Air remains unchanged this time around.

MacBook Air M5 price in India

The M5 MacBook Air starts at Rs 1,19,900 and Rs 1,44,900 in India for the 13.6 and 15.3-inch screens respectively. For context, the M4 MacBook Air was launched in India at Rs 99,900. Pre-orders for the MacBook Air start on March 4.

A day earlier, Apple launched the iPhone 17e and the M4 iPad Air. Rumours also suggest that the Cupertino giant may release a low-cost MacBook soon.
