WNBA injury update: Is Aliyah Boston injured? Indiana Fever star ruled out for rest of Unrivaled season in worrying setback

Aliyah Boston, the great center for the Indiana Fever, has won over many admirers while playing for Phantom BC in the 2026 Unrivaled season. Aliyah Boston, the great post player for Phantom BC, the top seed in the Unrivaled women’s basketball playoffs, reportedly revealed on Sunday that she will miss the rest of the season due to what was described as a right lower extremity injury.

Ruling Boston out for the season doesn’t provide much insight into the severity of her injury, especially since Unrivaled’s season finishes on March 4. In the meanwhile, Boston will play USA Basketball in Miami on March 6 in order to get ready for the FIBA World Cup Qualifying Tournament, which takes place in San Juan, Puerto Rico, from March 11–17.

Aliyah Boston sidelined despite strong Unrivaled season as Indiana Fever fans await clarity

This season, Boston’s Phantom BC team scored 18.9 points per game, the second-highest total among centers in Unrivaled.

Additionally, Boston shot 33. 3% from beyond the arc and averaged more than one made three-pointer per game, indicating that her game is still improving and should be a plus for the Fever this season.

Chloe Peterson provided an update on March 1 with an X post that read:

“Aliyah Boston, who left Phantom BC’s last regular season game with injury, has been ruled out for the rest of the Unrivaled season due to a right lower extremity injury… Unrivaled only has three days of play left, and did not specify the seriousness of the injury.”

Therefore, the extent of this harm is still uncertain. However, it’s not ideal that she won’t participate in Phantom BC’s Unrivaled postseason games. Because of all of this, Boston, 24, was named to the Second Team All-Unrivaled this season along with Brittney Sykes and Allisha Gray.

However, Fever supporters believed she should have been included in the First Team All-Unrivaled team, which also included Chelsea Gray, Paige Bueckers, and Kelsey Plum.

But right now, Fever supporters are more worried about their star center than Boston’s unmatched snub. Boston looked to have a lower-leg injury during Phantom BC’s regular season finale versus Rose BC on February 27 and returned to the locker room. She didn’t come back for the remainder of the match.

Aliyah Boston wins Defensive Player of the Year but injury clouds Unrivaled playoff hopes

This season, Boston, the Indiana Fever’s 2023 WNBA No. 1 draft pick and Rookie of the Year, won Unrivaled’s Defensive Player of the Year award. In addition to leading Unrivaled in blocks per game (2. 1) and ranking fourth in rebounds (9), she averaged 18. 9 points.

Phantom, with an 11-4 record, first-round bye to the playoff semifinals, which start on Monday, is the team with the best record in Unrivaled. Boston’s single-season record of 29 blocks earned them the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award on Saturday. The All-Unrivaled second team also included her.

Even though Boston seemed happy following her team’s victory, there were still worries about what she might be going through. Concerns were further heightened by the lack of a clear update regarding the extent of the injuries.
