Abhishek Sharma retains top rank despite poor form, Ishan Kishan breaks into top 5

India opener Abhishek Sharma retained his position at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I batting rankings despite a lean run in the ongoing T20 World Cup, while wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan broke into the top five in the latest update released by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Abhishek has endured a horrible stretch with the bat in the marquee tournament, but his performances leading up to the event ensured he held on to the No.1 spot. He continues to enjoy a comfortable 62-point lead over England’s Phil Salt, underlining the consistency that propelled him to the summit. Pakistan opener Sahibzada Farhan, currently the leading run-scorer in the tournament, climbed two places to third and achieved a career-best rating after a prolific run in the group stage.

Kishan emerged as one of the biggest movers among the top-ranked batters, rising three places to fifth. The left-hander’s surge into the top five caps a sustained run of strong performances in the shortest format and further strengthens India’s presence in the upper echelons of the rankings. South Africa’s Dewald Brevis vaulted 10 spots to ninth following an impressive campaign so far, while Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran (13th), West Indies skipper Shai Hope (14th) and England captain Harry Brook (18th) also made significant progress in the updated list.

In the all-rounders’ rankings, Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza reclaimed the No.1 position after playing a decisive role in guiding his side into the Super Eights. Raza edged past Pakistan’s Saim Ayub in what has developed into a tightly contested race at the top. India’s Shivam Dube rose two places to seventh after consistent contributions, and Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi climbed to eighth to remain among the leading multidimensional performers in the format.

India also continued to feature prominently in the bowling charts. Varun Chakravarthy retained his No.1 ranking despite a costly outing against South Africa in the World Cup, with his overall body of work keeping him ahead of the pack. South Africa pacer Corbin Bosch registered one of the most dramatic jumps in the latest update, soaring 21 places to third following standout performances that included a three-wicket haul against the UAE and figures of 2 for 12 against India.

Further down the list, West Indies quick Matthew Forde advanced to seventh and India spearhead Jasprit Bumrah moved up to eighth, reflecting their impact in recent matches. South Africa’s Marco Jansen, West Indies spinner Gudakesh Motie and England left-arm spinner Liam Dawson also enjoyed upward movement after productive weeks in the tournament.
