CBSE Class 10 Science exam tomorrow: Last-minute tips to avoid losing easy marks

With the CBSE Class 10 Science board exam scheduled for tomorrow, teachers are advising students to focus not just on revision but also on how they attempt the paper. Experts say many students lose marks due to avoidable mistakes such as writing answers in the wrong section, missing steps, or misreading questions.

Ms Ranjana Thapar, Science faculty at Satya School, Gurugram, said students should begin by following the basic instructions carefully inside the exam hall.

“Physics, Chemistry, and Biology questions must be answered in their respective sections. Answers written in the wrong section will not be awarded marks, even if they are correct,” she said.

READ QUESTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE ANSWERING

Teachers say careful reading of the question paper is critical. Students should identify keywords such as define, explain, calculate, or draw before writing the answer.

In multiple-choice questions, Ms Thapar advised using the process of elimination to remove incorrect options and improve accuracy. For Assertion–Reason questions, students must check whether both statements are correct and whether the reason explains the assertion properly.

Stepwise marking can help students score more.

CBSE follows stepwise marking, especially in numericals and long answers. This means students can still score marks even if the final answer is incorrect.

“Students should write formulas, steps, and logic clearly. Correct method and approach are rewarded,” she said.

TIME MANAGEMENT AND WORD LIMIT ARE IMPORTANT

Experts also warned students not to spend too much time on low-mark questions. Instead, time should be divided based on marks allotted to each question.

Students should also stick to the prescribed word limit. Writing unnecessarily long answers wastes time and does not bring extra marks.

Presentation can make a difference. Teachers say neat handwriting, clear formatting, and organised answers help examiners understand responses better.

Using proper spacing and writing clearly can improve overall presentation and reduce errors.

Practice builds familiarity and confidence.

Ms Thapar said practising previous years’ question papers helps students understand the exam pattern and improves confidence.

“Students who are familiar with the question pattern feel more comfortable and make fewer mistakes,” she said.

With the exam just hours away, teachers say students should stay calm, trust their preparation, and focus on accuracy. Careful reading, clear steps, and proper time management can help students secure better marks in the CBSE Class 10 Science exam.
