Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari box office day 7: Varun Dhawan-Janhvi Kapoor film struggles to touch Rs 40 crore; trails behind Badrinath Ki Dulhania

The Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor-starrer Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has had a challenging run at the box office, marred by mixed reviews and tough competition from Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 since its theatrical release last Thursday. As the film completes its first week in theatres, it’s still struggling to cross the Rs 40 crore mark, while the Shetty-starrer has already stormed past Rs 300 crore in the same period. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film witnessed another dip on Wednesday, earning Rs 2.25 crore and bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 38.76 crore.

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari box office journey and occupancy

The film opened at Rs 9.25 crore on Thursday, marking a decent start. However, instead of witnessing the expected weekend surge, the Shashank Khaitan directorial saw a drop, collecting a little over Rs 7 crore on both Saturday and Sunday. The decline continued through the weekdays — on Monday, the film fell sharply by 58 percent, earning Rs 3.25 crore. It maintained similar numbers on Tuesday before dropping another 30 percent on Wednesday with Rs 2.25 crore. The film recorded an overall 11.82% Hindi occupancy on Wednesday.

In an attempt to boost collections, the makers introduced a ‘Buy 1 Get 1 Free’ offer on tickets from Tuesday, though the move hasn’t significantly improved its box office performance. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, however, remains hopeful, noting that the lack of major new releases before Diwali could benefit the film. He wrote on X, “#SSKTK remains low-key, despite the benefit of discounted tickets [#BlockbusterTuesdays]… A higher number would’ve helped cover the shortfall. Nevertheless, the absence of major releases until #Diwali should work in favour of #SSKTK, particularly at multiplexes in major centres, where it continues to perform best.”

The next major theatrical release will be Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s Thamma, which hits screens on October 21.

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari vs Kantara Chapter 1

Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 has maintained a commanding lead over the Karan Johar production since day one. The film has crossed Rs 316 crore in India within a week — nearly eight times more than Janhvi and Varun’s film, which stands at Rs 38.76 crore.

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari vs Badrinath Ki Dulhania

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari marks Varun’s third collaboration with Shashank Khaitan after the Dulhania franchise, which includes Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath Ki Dulhania. However, when compared to the latter, Varun’s latest film lags significantly behind. Badrinath Ki Dulhania had earned Rs 73.66 crore within its first seven days, while Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari has managed only Rs 38.76 crore in the same period.
