Snehal Shah, also known by her professsional moniker DJ Rink, is celebrating her journey in an unsual women’s field as jockey on International Women’s Day.
“More than two decades ago, when DJ consoles in India were overwhelmingly dominated by men, I made a choice that would challenge conventions. What began as a passion for rhythm and performance soon turned into a mission—to carve a space for myself in a field where women were rarely seen behind the decks,” she says on her visit to the city.
Raised in a grounded, value-driven family, Rink’s early life was defined by discipline and strong principles. While formal education provided structure, it was life’s lessons that ultimately shaped her path. “Choosing DJing as a profession at a time when it was considered unconventional for women meant confronting skepticism and societal assumptions head-on,” she adds.
Her professional journey began humbly with small private events, where she refined her craft, learned the nuances of crowd engagement, and built her reputation from the ground up. “Each performance became a stepping stone, helping me establish credibility through consistency, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to excellence,” she says.
Today, DJ Rink ranks high in India’s luxury event circuit. “From premium weddings to large-scale celebrations and high-profile corporate gatherings, I have built a reputation not merely as a DJ, but as what I call an “experience curator.”
My performances go beyond playing music,” she says.

“My turning point came when luxury wedding planners and large-format event organizers began booking me not as a novelty female DJ, but for my artistry and reliability. Over time, I developed a signature style marked by a commanding stage presence, high-energy yet sophisticated performances, and meticulous professionalism,” she says.
Commenting on the late nights, safety concerns, and the constant pressure to prove her credibility in a male-dominated industry, she says, “These experiences strengthened my resolve and shaped my identity as a disciplined, self-aware, and purpose-driven professional. At the heart of my philosophy lies integrity, financial independence, emotional resilience, and self-respect.”
Now entering a new chapter of her career, DJ Rink is looking beyond the stage.
