UP Grants 100% Tax Exemption for Electric Vehicles Until 2027

UP Offers Full Tax Exemption for Electric Vehicles Until 2027

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a 100% exemption on registration fees and road tax for all electric vehicles purchased in the state until October 2027. This major initiative aims to boost EV adoption and combat pollution from fossil fuel vehicles.

Key Takeaways

  • 100% exemption on registration fees and road tax for EVs
  • Valid for purchases between October 14, 2025 and October 13, 2027
  • Covers all vehicle types including two-wheelers, cars, e-buses, and goods carriers
  • Special provisions for fleet operators and aggregators

Policy Details and Timeline

The exemption is part of the amended Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy-2022. Transport Minister Singh confirmed the amendment was approved in a recent high-level committee meeting.

According to the November 5, 2025 notification, the tax benefits apply specifically to pure electric vehicles purchased and registered between October 14, 2025 and October 13, 2027. This covers the fourth and fifth years of the state’s EV policy implementation.

Benefits for Commercial Operators

The policy includes special provisions for commercial vehicle operators. Aggregators and fleet operators can avail subsidies for up to 10 units of two, three, or four-wheeled vehicles, and up to 25 units of e-buses or e-goods carriers.

The Yogi Adityanath government describes this move as a significant step toward environmental protection and creating a clean, sustainable transportation system in Uttar Pradesh. The original policy was notified on October 14, 2022 with the goal of reducing pollution from conventional vehicles.
