American electric vehicle giant Tesla has appointed automotive industry veteran Sharad Agarwal, former head of Lamborghini India, to lead its India operations. This strategic move comes as Tesla intensifies its expansion efforts in the Indian market.

India Expansion Gains Momentum

Tesla has been rapidly establishing its presence in India, opening its first experience centre in Mumbai in July, followed by a second location in Delhi’s Aerocity in August. The company has now commenced deliveries of its popular Model Y electric SUV, which was introduced to the Indian market in July this year.

Model Y Specifications

The redesigned Model Y, recognized as the world’s best-selling electric vehicle in both 2023 and 2024, offers Indian customers two variants: rear-wheel drive and long-range rear-wheel drive. These models deliver an impressive range of 500 km and 622 km (WLTP) respectively.

Agarwal’s Automotive Background

Sharad Agarwal brings substantial luxury automotive experience to Tesla, having previously led Lamborghini’s India operations. Following his tenure at Lamborghini, he served as Chief Business Officer at Classic Legends, a Mahindra & Mahindra subsidiary focused on reviving classic motorcycle brands.
