If you bought the Tata Nexon in February, you picked the best-seller

India’s passenger vehicle market in February 2026 saw a close contest at the top, with multiple models separated by slim margins. Compact SUVs, hatchbacks and sedans all featured strongly in the list of best-selling cars, reflecting the diverse preferences of Indian buyers.

Leading the chart was the Tata Nexon, which recorded sales of 19,430 units during the month. The steady demand for the Nexon continues to be driven by its wide powertrain range, including petrol, diesel and electric options, along with its strong value proposition in the sub-4-metre SUV space.

Right behind it was the Maruti Suzuki Dzire with 19,326 units. The compact sedan remains a consistent performer, supported by strong fleet demand and its reputation for fuel efficiency and low maintenance costs.

The Tata Punch secured the third position with 18,748 units. Its SUV-like stance combined with accessible pricing has helped it retain popularity among buyers.

In the midsize SUV segment, the Hyundai Creta posted 17,938 units, continuing its strong run in one of the most competitive categories in the market. Close behind were the Maruti Suzuki Brezza at 17,863 units and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga at 17,807 units, highlighting Maruti Suzuki’s broad-based demand across SUV and MPV segments.
