The Kerala Story 2 sees low opening occupancy Kerala, some screenings cancelled

The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond released on February 27, 2026, but the film has opened to low theatre turnout in parts of Kerala. Screenings reportedly did not take place at some theatres in Kochi, Thrissur and Kozhikode on the first night due to a lack of audience. Advance booking on the second day has also remained limited.

In Thiruvananthapuram, shows have been scheduled at Lulu Mall, Mall of Travancore, Aries and Greenfield Cinemas. As per current bookings, Lulu Mall recorded the sale of around 25 tickets, while Aries had five bookings for the 2.45 pm show. The theatre management is expected to run the show if bookings reach at least 10 tickets.

Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, The Kerala Story 2 centres on the claim that young Hindu women are lured into interfaith marriages, later facing abuse and forced religious conversion. The film drew attention and controversy following the release of its trailer.

The film’s trailer presents the stories of three Hindu women from different parts of India who choose to marry Muslim men against their families’ wishes.

The narrative follows their lives after marriage, portraying emotional isolation and troubled relationships. The film positions itself as a cautionary tale, especially for young women, suggesting that interfaith romantic relationships can result in loss of identity and autonomy.

The Kerala Story 2 features Ulka Gupta, Aditi Bhatia and Aishwarya Ojha in lead roles.
