Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the full Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor in Uttar Pradesh today, dated February 22, 2026 at 1:00 PM, in Rally Ground in Mohiuddinpur, Meerut, as per Government of UP’s official post (@UPGovt) on X. This marks a major milestone in regional connectivity for the National Capital Region (NCR). The Prime Minister will also flag off the Meerut Metro, which has been developed as part of the integrated transit system within the city. Once inaugurated, the Namo Bharat trains will run seamlessly from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut, covering 82. 15 km in approximately 55 minutes.

The official post on X (translated to English) read, “Under the guidance of the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji and the leadership of Chief Minister @myogiadityanath ji, Uttar Pradesh is witnessing unprecedented momentum in modern transport infrastructure. Full corridor to become operational

With today’s inauguration, the remaining stretches, including the New Ashok Nagar to Sarai Kale Khan segment in Delhi and the Meerut South to Modipuram section, will open for passenger service. The corridor comprises around 70 km of elevated track and 12 km underground.

The project, built at an estimated cost of over INR 30,000 crore, is expected to transform commuting patterns between Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh. The fare for the full journey is expected to be approximately INR 213, calculated at around INR 2.60 per kilometre.

Prime Minister Modi had laid the foundation stone of the Rapid Rail project on March 8, 2019. The 17-km priority section was inaugurated in October 2023, and subsequent extensions gradually brought the corridor closer to completion.

With today’s event, the full Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor will be formally dedicated to the nation.

Meerut Metro to be flagged off

Alongside the regional rapid transit system, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Meerut Metro. The metro corridor runs between Meerut South and Modipuram and spans about 23 km with 13 stations.

Meerut Metro will be the fastest metro rail in the country with a top speed of 120 km per hour. The train will consist of three coaches with a seating capacity of 173 people and a total capacity of 700 commuters.

The Meerut Metro project has an integrated ticketing system that enables commuters to travel on both Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro using the same ticket. This is a unique system where both metro rails will run on the same infrastructure in the city, making Meerut one of the few cities in the world to have such a system.

Focus on accessibility and modernization

The Meerut Metro has been designed with modern amenities such as push-button doors, emergency alarms, and platform screen doors to provide safety to the commuters. The seats reserved for women and senior citizens have been included in each coach.

The stations have also been designed with special needs such as a space marked for stretchers and wheelchairs, along with elevators to provide easy access to senior citizens traveling to Delhi for medical assistance.

With this new development, faster connectivity is expected to make traveling from Meerut to Delhi easier for working professionals and businesses alike.

With travel time under an hour, this route is expected to reduce congestion on highways and increase productivity in the region. The metro system in Meerut is also expected to increase mobility in the region.
