A family celebration turned tragic in Stockton, California, when a mass shooting left four people dead and ten others injured. The violence erupted during a child’s birthday party at a banquet hall on Saturday evening.

Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee confirmed the incident in a Facebook post, stating he was “in contact with staff and public safety officials to understand exactly what happened.”

San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office reported approximately 14 individuals were struck by gunfire, with four victims confirmed deceased. Sheriff’s spokesperson Heather Brent confirmed the victims included both children and adults.

Ongoing Investigation

The shooting occurred inside a banquet hall near the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue around 6pm local time. The venue shares a parking lot with other businesses.

Authorities described the investigation as “very active and ongoing” with limited information available. Early indications suggest this may have been a targeted incident, though investigators are exploring all possibilities.

Police have not released information about the identity or motive of the attacker, nor details about the severity of injuries among surviving victims.

According to Stockton City Council member Michele Padilla, the victims ranged in age from 8 to 22 years old. Authorities have not yet released the names of those killed or injured.
