Starlink Begins Hiring in India Ahead of 2026 Satellite Internet Launch

Key Takeaways

  • Starlink begins hiring key finance and compliance staff in Bengaluru
  • Commercial operations in India are targeted for early 2026
  • The company is undergoing final regulatory security and technical tests
  • Extensive ground station network planned across multiple Indian cities

Elon Musk’s Starlink has initiated a major hiring drive in India, signaling its satellite internet service launch is approaching. The SpaceX-backed company is recruiting for critical finance and compliance roles based in Bengaluru, with commercial operations expected to begin by early 2026.

Starlink’s India Hiring Strategy

Starlink has posted openings for several senior positions including Accounting Manager, Payments Manager, Senior Treasury Analyst, and Tax Manager. All roles are based in Bengaluru, which will serve as Starlink’s primary operational hub in India. The company has specified that these are strictly on-site positions with no remote or hybrid options available.

This local team will be responsible for developing and scaling the accounting, reporting, and statutory compliance systems needed to support Starlink’s India operations, which are reportedly adopting a slightly different model compared to other markets.

Regulatory Compliance and Infrastructure Development

The hiring push coincides with Starlink’s final regulatory steps to meet India’s stringent requirements for satellite internet services. The company is currently establishing ground infrastructure and conducting security and technical demonstrations for government officials, including the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and law enforcement agencies.

These mandatory tests ensure compliance with lawful interception and security requirements before final spectrum allocation for the Global Mobile Personal Communications by Satellite (GMPCS) license.

Ground Station Network Expansion

To support its low-latency service, Starlink plans to establish an extensive network of gateway earth stations across India. The company has already applied for permission to open multiple ground stations, with reports indicating plans for up to nine locations in key cities including Mumbai, Noida, Chandigarh, Kolkata, and Lucknow.

The company has also leased office space in Mumbai, establishing a physical base for its initial rollout phase.

Security and Data Compliance Measures

Security remains a primary focus for Indian regulators. Starlink is complying with government directives requiring all trial period data to be stored locally. Additionally, the DoT has mandated that only Indian nationals operate the gateway stations until foreign technical experts receive final security clearances from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

Once operational, Starlink will compete directly with established players like Bharti-backed Eutelsat OneWeb and Reliance Jio’s Jio Satellite services .
