“We can confirm increased error rates and latencies for multiple AWS Services in the US-EAST-1 Region,” AWS said in an update on its status page.

Several high-profile companies publicly attributed their service issues to the AWS outage. AI startup Perplexity, cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, and trading platform Robinhood were among those affected.

“Perplexity is down right now. The root cause is an AWS issue. We’re working on resolving it,” Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas said in a post on X.

Widespread Impact Across Industries

According to outage tracker Downdetector, the disruption was extensive:

  • Amazon Services: Amazon’s shopping website, Prime Video, and Alexa experienced issues.
  • Gaming Platforms: Fortnite, Roblox, Clash Royale, and Clash of Clans were among the games down.
  • Financial Apps: PayPal’s Venmo and Chime faced outages.
  • Transportation: Lyft’s app was down for thousands of U.S. users.

Messaging app Signal also confirmed it was hit by the outage. President Meredith Whittaker stated on X that their platform was affected.

AWS provides essential cloud computing, data storage, and digital services to companies, governments, and individuals. As a dominant cloud infrastructure provider competing with and , disruptions to its servers can cause cascading failures across the digital ecosystem.
