CBSE on-screen marking glitch: Teacher flags delay in checking, result

Over 18 lakh students waiting for the CBSE Class 12 results may have to wait longer as fresh concerns emerge over delays in answer sheet evaluation.

A senior teacher from a Delhi-based DAV school has claimed that the newly introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) system is facing repeated glitches, slowing the checking process instead of speeding it up.

The development has triggered discussion around CBSE’s digital evaluation reform, which was expected to make result processing faster, transparent, and more efficient.

WHY IS CBSE CLASS 12 PAPER EVALUATION GETTING DELAYED?

According to the teacher, evaluation of major Class 12 subjects such as Business Studies and Biology has only recently begun, even though the board examinations concluded weeks ago.

The teacher alleged that the newly introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) platform has been facing frequent portal slowdowns, login and server issues, technical breakdowns during checking, delays in loading scanned answer sheets, and repeated interruptions in examiners’ workflow.

Due to these ongoing problems, evaluators are reportedly taking much longer than expected to complete the checking of each paper.

WHAT IS CBSE’S ON-SCREEN MARKING (OSM) SYSTEM?

From this year onwards, CBSE has introduced On-Screen Marking (OSM) for Class 12 board exams, replacing the traditional physical checking model. The move was announced by CBSE Exam Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj, who described it as a major step towards modernising the board’s evaluation system.

CBSE stated that the new process would help speed up result preparation, reduce marking errors, improve transparency, make evaluation more efficient, and handle large-scale checking smoothly.

However, early reports suggest that the rollout may be facing practical challenges.

HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE AFFECTED BY THE DELAY?

The scale of the CBSE Class 12 examination is massive this year.

According to board figures, over 18 lakh students appeared for the Class 12 exams held across 120 subjects, while more than 10 crore answer books are expected to be evaluated.

Given the massive volume of assessment work, any delay in the checking process can affect lakhs of students in India as well as those studying abroad.

WILL CBSE CLASS 12 RESULT 2026 BE DELAYED?

CBSE has not officially announced the Class 12 result date yet. The results are expected to be declared between May 10 and May 15, 2026, the teacher added.

If OSM-related technical issues continue, pressure may rise on the board to speed up evaluation or revise expected timelines.

Students should note that no official delay has been confirmed so far.

CBSE’s move to digital evaluation through on-screen marking was aimed at modernising result processing. However, if teachers’ concerns about glitches and slow checking are accurate, the transition may not be smooth in its first year.

With major subject evaluations reportedly starting late, lakhs of students are now waiting closely for the CBSE Class 12 Result 2026 announcement.

We reached out to CBSE for clarification on the issue. At the time of publishing, the board had not responded; this story will be updated as and when we receive an official response.
