AI startup Prophetic makes wearable gadget that lets you control your dreams apparently

AI can do a lot of things. It can code, it can write, it can do your work. But it can also allow you to control your dreams? That is the claim being made by a startup called Prophetic AI. The company has launched new wearables that apparently lets you control what you dream, all for a starting price of $449 (roughly Rs 42,300). But is this even possible?

Prophetic AI claims that its two new wearable devices, Dual and Phase, can change how people dream. The wearables look like bands that go across your head, with an attached wire. Both devices look identical in terms of design on the company’s website. These devices can trigger lucid dreams, that is when you are aware that you are dreaming and can control the dreams.

How does this work?

On X, Prophetic AI explained how the devices worked. The company said that these devices send safe ultrasonic energy through the forehead into the prefrontal cortex and activate the frontoparietal network. This network is typically inactive during dreaming, which leads to a lack of lucidity.

Prophetic announced the two devices on X.

By triggering this network, Prophetic claims, the devices help rebalance that activity and gently push dreams into a more lucid state. The Prophetic Pulse also uses integrated electroencephalogram or EEG sensors, that are used to understand brain activity. Elon Musk’s Neuralink also uses EEG sensors in its brain implant chips (BCI).

The pitch is based on transcranial focused ultrasound, or tFUS, together with AI to target the prefrontal cortex during REM sleep. This, in theory, could allow the devices to induce lucid dreams and improve dream recall, vividness and control. Though this is yet to be proven.

How much will this cost?

The Prophetic Dual is listed at $449 (roughly Rs 43,200) on the company’s website. It will begin shipping at the end of this year, while the Prophetic Phase will retail at $1,299 (roughly Rs 1,22,000) and start shipping in mid 2027.
