India trying to end Ahmedabad hoodoo? Switch team hotel ahead of T20 World Cup final

India are leaving very little to chance ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 final in Ahmedabad. When the stakes are this high, even the smallest details start to feel important.

Including the team hotel.

As India gear up to face New Zealand in the T20 World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 8, the squad has reportedly changed its base within the city. Instead of staying at ITC Narmada, where they were lodged during previous visits, the team is now camped at Taj Skyline.

On the surface, it looks like a simple logistical switch. But fans are already convinced there might be a hint of superstition behind it.

Ahmedabad has given India both joy and heartbreak over the years. On paper, the numbers are pretty impressive. India have won seven of their 10 T20 matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium, losing just three.

Yet numbers rarely tell the whole story.

Because whenever Ahmedabad is mentioned, many Indian fans cannot help but think back to November 19, 2023, when Australia stunned India in the ODI World Cup final at the very same stadium.

So when news emerged that the Indian team had moved hotels ahead of another world final in Ahmedabad, it quickly sparked chatter online. Some fans believe the switch might simply be the team trying to avoid repeating the ghosts of that night.

WHY ARE INDIA SWITCHING AHMEDABAD TEAM HOTELS?

The most straightforward explanation is actually logistical.

The International Cricket Council had already allocated ITC Narmada as the official hotel for the first team to qualify for the final. That team turned out to be New Zealand, which meant India had to opt for another accommodation in the city.

The Indian squad has therefore shifted to Taj Skyline ahead of the final.

Still, the change has inevitably brought back memories of India’s previous stays in Ahmedabad. During the 2023 ODI World Cup final, the team stayed at ITC Narmada before suffering a heartbreaking defeat to Australia at the same stadium.

More recently, India also suffered their only defeat of the 2026 T20 World Cup at this venue when South Africa beat them in their Super 8 opener.

So while the hotel switch may be purely coincidental, fans have been quick to wonder whether it might also help change the Ahmedabad storyline.

After all, if a new hotel brings new luck, nobody inside the Indian camp is likely to complain.

T20 WORLD CUP SHOWS INDIA’S SUPERSTITIOUS SIDE

If this tournament has shown anything, it is that even the most professional teams sometimes carry a touch of superstition.

Earlier in the competition, India adjusted their training schedule ahead of the semi-final against England.

The team normally trains between 6 pm and 9 pm. But on that particular day, the session was pushed back to 7 pm.

The reason was a lunar eclipse.

The Indian team chose to avoid training before the eclipse concluded and only began their practice session afterwards. Whether it was precaution, cultural belief or simply a harmless routine tweak, it quickly caught the attention of fans.
