Adrian Peterson Arrested for DWI and Weapon Charges in Texas

NFL Legend Adrian Peterson Arrested for DWI and Weapon Charges

Former NFL superstar Adrian Peterson faces serious legal trouble after being arrested in Sugar Land, Texas, for alleged driving while intoxicated and unlawful weapon possession. This marks his second DWI arrest this year, potentially leading to severe penalties under Texas law.

Key Details of the Arrest

Police took the 39-year-old running back into custody around 10 a.m. on Sunday. Booking records show he faces:

  • Two counts of driving while intoxicated (DWI)
  • One count of unlawful carrying of a weapon

Authorities haven’t revealed what prompted the traffic stop or why Peterson was in Sugar Land, located about three hours from his Palestine, Texas hometown.

Repeat Offender Faces Stricter Penalties

This incident represents Peterson’s second DWI offense in 2024. In April, Minnesota police stopped him for speeding and recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.14% – nearly double the legal limit.

Texas law imposes harsh consequences for repeat DWI offenders:

  • Fines up to $4,000
  • Jail time from one month to one year
  • Driver’s license suspension for up to two years

The state’s lifetime lookback period means his Minnesota arrest could contribute to enhanced sentencing.

Weapon Charge Carries Severe Consequences

Peterson also faces unlawful weapon possession charges. Under Texas law, this occurs when someone “intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun.”

This charge can range from a Class A misdemeanor to a third-degree felony, with potential penalties including:

  • Up to 10 years in prison
  • Fines reaching $10,000

Hall of Fame Career Marred by Legal Troubles

Adrian Peterson’s football legacy remains iconic – he ranks fifth in NFL history with over 14,000 rushing yards and earned MVP honors in 2012 after nearly breaking the single-season rushing record.

However, his career has been consistently shadowed by off-field issues:

  • 2014: Felony child abuse charge (pleaded no contest to misdemeanor)
  • 2022: Detained at LAX for domestic dispute (charges dropped)
  • 2024: Two DWI arrests within months

The latest arrest adds to a troubling pattern for the former superstar, who now battles legal challenges rather than opposing defenses.
