The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) and Public Authority for Food and Nutrition in Kuwait announced that they are withdrawing baby formula manufactured by Nutricia-Danone under the Aptamil and Bebelac brands.
The recall was initiated after a voluntary notification from the company due to potential contamination with Cereulide, a substance produced by Bacillus cereus bacteria that poses a risk to infant health.
According to the SFDA, exposure to Cerulide may cause symptoms within 30 minutes to six hours after consumption including nausea, frequent vomiting and abdominal pain. However, the symptoms are generally short-term and last for up to 24 hours.

The move comes as a precautionary recall and follows a comprehensive assessment of potential risks. The Public Authority for Food and Nutrition in Kuwait said that its decision was based on follow-up reports through the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).
The authorities clarified that no illnesses related to the recalled products have been reported in the Kingdom as of yet. However, consumers are strongly advised to check the batch number printed on their product packaging and dispose off the recalled products immediately.
