Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a significant meeting with Dario Amodei, CEO of AI safety company Anthropic, who confirmed plans to establish a Bengaluru office next year.

“Glad to meet you. India’s vibrant tech ecosystem and talented youth are driving AI innovation that is human-centric and responsible,” PM Modi stated in his X post response to Amodei.
The Prime Minister added: “We welcome Anthropic’s expansion and look forward to working together to harness AI for growth across key sectors.”
Anthropic’s India Expansion
Amodei confirmed discussing Anthropic’s India expansion with PM Modi, noting the dramatic growth of their Claude Code product in the country.
“Today I met with PM @narendramodi to discuss Anthropic’s expansion to India – where Claude Code use is up 5x since June. How India deploys AI across critical sectors like education, healthcare, and agriculture for over a billion people will be essential in shaping the future of AI,” Amodei said.
Anthropic, founded by former OpenAI executives, specializes in developing safe AI systems and counts Google among its major investors. The company’s India expansion signals growing confidence in the country’s AI ecosystem and talent pool.
