Elon Musk Reveals Partner Shivon Zilis’s Indian Heritage

Elon Musk has disclosed that his partner Shivon Zilis is half-Indian and was adopted as an infant. The Tesla CEO also revealed their son’s middle name pays tribute to Nobel laureate Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar.

Key Takeaways

  • Shivon Zilis is half-Indian and was adopted as a baby
  • Musk and Zilis have a son with middle name “Sekhar” after physicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar
  • Zilis serves as Director of Operations at Musk’s Neuralink
  • The couple has four children together

Podcast Revelations

During an appearance on Zerodha founder Nikhil Kamath’s podcast, Musk shared personal details about his family life. “I’m not sure if you know this, but my partner Shivon is half Indian,” the billionaire revealed.

He added, “One of my sons with her, his middle name is Sekhar after Chandrasekhar,” honoring the Indian-American Nobel Prize-winning physicist.

Zilis’s Background

When asked about Zilis’s ancestry, Musk explained, “She grew up in Canada. She was given up for adoption when she was a baby. I think her father was like an exchange student at the university or something like that.”

“I’m not sure the exact details, but you know it was kind of thing where I don’t know, she was given up for adoption. But she grew up in Canada,” Musk added.

Professional Role and Family

Zilis joined Musk’s AI company Neuralink in 2017 and currently serves as Director of Operations and Special Projects. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Philosophy from Yale University.

The couple has four children: twins Strider and Azure, daughter Arcadia, and son Seldon Lycurgus.

Musk on Parenthood

Musk shared heartfelt views about fatherhood during the conversation, encouraging Kamath to consider having children. He described the profound experience of watching children develop from helpless infants to thinking individuals.

“Well, I mean, you’ve got this little creature that loves you, and you love this little creature. And I do not know, you kind of see the world through their eyes as they grow up, and their conscious awareness increases. From a baby that has no idea what is going on, cannot survive by itself, cannot even walk around, cannot talk, to stop walking, then talking, and then having interesting thoughts. And but, yeah, I mean, I think we fundamentally have to have kids or go extinct, you know,” Musk reflected.

The billionaire emphasized that having children provides both personal fulfillment and essential continuity for humanity.
