Pakistan is preparing to expand its electronics manufacturing sector. The government intends to invite leading international technology firms, including Apple and Samsung Electronics, to set up production facilities in the country.
Reportedly, the initiative is aimed at creating jobs, drawing foreign direct investment and promoting technology transfer.
The decision emerged from a high-level meeting of the Engineering Development Board (EDB), chaired by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Haroon Akhtar Khan, as per a report by PhoneWorld Pakistan.
During the meeting, officials reviewed and finalised the Mobile and Electronic Devices Manufacturing Policy 2026–33. The policy will now be presented to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for formal approval.
Federal Secretary for Industries and Production Saif Anjum and EDB Chief Executive Officer Hammad Mansoor attended the session along with other senior officials.
Haroon Akhtar Khan described the policy as a great initiative that could strengthen Pakistan’s manufacturing base.
In recent years, Pakistan’s mobile phone industry has expanded, particularly in the area of device assembly. Despite this progress, the sector remains heavily dependent on overseas parts and international supply chains.
Through the proposed framework, authorities reportedly aim to shift from simple assembly operations to comprehensive domestic production with greater local value addition.
