Nintendo Launches Official Digital Game Store in Thailand
Nintendo has officially launched its digital game store in Thailand, bringing cheaper games and Thai language support to the market. The move marks a significant expansion for one of the world’s top gaming companies in Southeast Asia.
Key Benefits for Thai Gamers
- Games priced 4-7% cheaper than other regional stores
- Thai language support for games including Donkey Kong Bananza
- Direct pricing in Thai baht for local consumers
The Thailand Nintendo eShop (digital store) now allows gamers to purchase and download games directly in local currency. For expats and local families, this provides more convenient access to Nintendo’s gaming library.
“I have been playing Nintendo games for several decades, but not until last Tuesday, November 18, that I am able to download digital games in Thai currency,” shared one longtime fan.
Current Limitations
While the store displays prices in Thai baht, the system interface currently doesn’t fully switch to Thai language despite having a ‘Thai/English’ option. The store launch also comes with regional restrictions affecting payment methods.
According to Nintendo’s policy: “If Nintendo eShop is available for your region, credit cards issued from your region may not work in a different region’s version of Nintendo eShop.”
This means Thai credit card holders can no longer purchase from other countries’ digital stores. The alternative is using Nintendo eShop Gift Cards available through platforms like Shopee or Lazada.
Despite these limitations, the launch represents Nintendo’s growing focus on the Thai market and provides a more accessible gaming experience for local consumers.
