Microsoft Invests $15.2 Billion in UAE AI and Cloud Infrastructure

Microsoft Commits $15.2 Billion to UAE AI and Cloud Infrastructure

Microsoft has announced a massive $15.2 billion investment in artificial intelligence and cloud computing infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates, marking one of the largest tech investments in the region.

Key Investment Details

  • Total Investment: $15.2 billion in UAE AI and cloud infrastructure
  • Already Invested: $7.3 billion since 2023
  • Future Commitment: $7.9 billion more by end of 2029
  • Allocation: Two-thirds for AI/data centers, one-third for local operations

The announcement from Microsoft Vice Chairman Brad Smith clarifies the funding direction: “This is not money raised in the UAE. It’s money we’re spending in the UAE.”

Strategic Partnerships and Government Support

The investments received encouragement from both US and UAE governments and involve partnership with G42, the UAE’s sovereign artificial intelligence company. The deal immediately boosted Nvidia shares by 2.6% as markets anticipated expanded access for advanced AI chips.

Export Licenses and Advanced Technology

Microsoft secured export licenses during the Trump administration to supply GPU chips to the UAE, becoming the first company to receive such approvals. Smith highlighted Microsoft’s compliance with “strong cybersecurity, national security, and other technology conditions required by these licenses.”

Updated September licenses permit shipping “the equivalent of 60,400 additional A100 chips … involving Nvidia’s even more advanced GB300 GPUs.”

These processors will power advanced AI models from , Anthropic, open-source providers, and Microsoft’s own AI systems, significantly boosting the UAE’s AI capabilities while maintaining export control safeguards.
