Louvre Jewel Heist: Museum Closed as Police Hunt Thieves
The Louvre Museum in Paris remains closed for a second consecutive day as French police intensify their search for thieves who executed a spectacular daylight robbery, stealing priceless royal jewels.
Key Details of the Heist
Investigators believe an organized crime group stole nine pieces of jewelry during a seven-minute operation on Sunday. In their frantic escape, the thieves dropped one particularly valuable item—a crown adorned with over 1,000 diamonds—on Parisian streets.
A specialized team of 60 investigators is now working the case, focusing on the organized crime angle.
Security Concerns Raised
The brazen theft has reignited concerns about museum security across France, especially since two other cultural institutions were targeted last month. Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin publicly acknowledged security flaws at the Louvre, while Interior Minister Laurent Nunez has ordered enhanced protection measures for cultural sites.
Meanwhile, thousands of disappointed tourists have been forced to reschedule their visits to the world’s most visited museum.
