Kashmiri Parents Appeal to Centre for Students’ Evacuation from Iran
Parents of Kashmiri students in Iran have urgently written to the Indian government, seeking assistance to bring their children home amidst ongoing civil unrest in the country.
Key Details of the Appeal
- The parents have written to the External Affairs Minister, expressing deep concern for their children’s safety.
- They have been unable to contact their children directly due to the volatile situation.
- Local administration in Kashmir has been approached but could not provide a solution.
- The families have offered to bear all evacuation costs themselves.
Background of the Crisis
Iran has been gripped by widespread protests since September last year, following the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody. This instability has heightened safety concerns for foreign nationals, including Indian students.
Direct Appeal from Parents
In their letter, the parents stated: “We are very worried about the safety of our children. We request the government to make arrangements for their return.”
They further explained their failed attempts to get local help: “We have approached the local administration but they have not been able to help us. We request the central government to intervene.”
Willingness to Cooperate
Highlighting their desperation, the parents clarified they are ready to cover all expenses. “We are willing to bear the cost of bringing our children back home. We just want them to be safe,” the letter said.
Appeal to Government’s Track Record
While expressing confidence in the government’s efforts for citizen safety abroad, they made a direct plea: “We are grateful for the government’s efforts… We request the government to help us in this hour of need.”
The appeal underscores the growing anxiety among Indian families with kin in conflict zones and tests the government’s mechanisms.
