King Charles Strips Prince Andrew of Last Royal Titles

Key Takeaways

  • King Charles has formally stripped Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor of his last two royal honours.
  • The former prince’s name has been removed from the registers of the Order of the Garter and the Royal Victorian Order.
  • Andrew now faces the potential loss of his honorary Royal Navy title of Vice-Admiral.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, has officially become a commoner. His brother, King Charles III, has erased his name from the registers of the UK’s two most senior orders of chivalry.

Official Stripping of Royal Titles

According to an official order published in the London Gazette, King Charles ordered the cancellation and annulment of the Order of the Garter awarded to Andrew in April 2006. Similarly, his appointment to the Royal Victorian Order in February 2011 has been cancelled. The order is backdated to October 30, the same date Buckingham Palace originally stripped him of his HRH style.

Royal Navy Title Under Review

More bad news may follow for the 65-year-old former prince. UK Defence Minister John Healey stated that the Royal Navy is considering stripping Andrew of his last remaining honorary title of Vice-Admiral. The matter is being reviewed in consultation with Buckingham Palace.

The Fall of a Prince

Andrew, the younger brother of King Charles and son of the late Queen Elizabeth II, has seen his royal privileges stripped away due to his association with convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. King Charles has also evicted him from the Royal Lodge, his home for over two decades.
