Delhi Airport Flight Delays: 100+ Flights Hit by ATC System Failure

Delhi Airport Hit by Major Flight Delays Due to ATC Technical Glitch

Over 100 flights have been delayed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport following a technical failure in the air traffic control system. The disruption began on Thursday evening, affecting both arrivals and departures with average delays of 50 minutes reported.

Key Updates

  • ATC system failure causes 100+ flight delays at Delhi airport
  • Average departure delays of 50 minutes reported
  • Multiple airlines issue passenger advisories
  • Technical glitch in Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS)
  • Manual processing causing operational slowdown

What Caused the Delhi Flight Delays?

The disruption stems from a technical glitch in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which provides critical data to air traffic controllers. With the automated system down, controllers are manually entering flight details using available data, significantly slowing operations.

Delhi International Airport Limited confirmed the issue in an official statement: “Due to a technical issue with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, flight operations at IGIA are experiencing delays. Their team is actively working with all stakeholders including DIAL to resolve it at the earliest.”

Airlines Issue Passenger Advisories

Air India acknowledged the system-wide impact: “A technical issue with the ATC system in Delhi is impacting flight operations across all airlines, leading to delays and longer wait times at the airport and onboard aircraft. We regret the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen disruption, which is beyond our control, and appreciate your patience.”

Indigo reported similar challenges: “Flight operations at Delhi Airport are currently experiencing delays due to a technical issue with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system. As a result, flight operations at Delhi and several northern regions are impacted. We understand that extended wait times, both on the ground and onboard, may cause inconvenience.”

Spicejet confirmed the widespread disruption: “Flight operations at Delhi Airport are currently affected due to a technical issue with the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system. This disruption is impacting flights across Delhi and several northern regions. Our crew and ground teams are assisting passengers and working closely with the authorities to minimize the impact.”

Akasa Air also warned passengers about potential delays across their network due to the ATC system failure at Delhi airport.

All airlines have advised passengers to check their flight status before heading to the airport and have assured that ground staff are providing assistance to minimize inconvenience.
