Tesla Cybertruck Head Siddhant Awasthi Resigns Amid Challenges

Tesla Cybertruck Chief Siddhant Awasthi Resigns After 8 Years

Siddhant Awasthi, the head of Tesla’s Cybertruck program, has announced his departure from the company via a LinkedIn post. His resignation comes during a challenging period for Tesla, with the Cybertruck facing slower sales, increasing recalls, and the company reporting a 37% year-on-year profit drop to $1.4 billion in Q3.

Key Takeaways

  • Tesla’s Cybertruck program head Siddhant Awasthi resigns after 8+ years
  • Departure comes amid Cybertruck sales challenges and Tesla’s fourth straight quarterly profit decline
  • Awasthi started as an intern and rose to lead the flagship Cybertruck program
  • He expressed gratitude to Elon Musk and Tesla leadership in his farewell note

Educational Background

Siddhant Awasthi is an engineer from Bengaluru who completed his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya. He earned his engineering degree from Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering before pursuing his Master’s at the University of Cincinnati in the US.

From Intern to Cybertruck Leader

Awasthi began his Tesla journey as an intern eight years ago, eventually rising to lead the Cybertruck division.

“Eight years ago, when I started as an intern, I never dreamed I’d one day have the opportunity to lead the Cybertruck program and bring it to reality,”

he wrote in his LinkedIn post.

Major Tesla Contributions

During his tenure, Awasthi worked across multiple critical projects including Model 3 production ramp-up, developing the Shanghai Gigafactory, and delivering the Cybertruck.

“I recently made one of the hardest decisions of my life to leave Tesla after an incredible run. It’s tough to sum up eight years in just a few lines, but what a thrilling journey it’s been: ramping up Model 3, working on Giga Shanghai, developing new electronics and wireless architectures, and delivering the once-in-a-lifetime Cybertruck—all before hitting 30.”

Gratitude to Elon Musk

Awasthi specifically thanked Tesla CEO Elon Musk in his farewell note, writing:

“I want to extend a huge thanks to Elon, all Tesla leaders (past and present), mentors, and our amazing customers (huge shoutout!) who’ve fuelled my drive and kept me pushing forward through it all.”

Reflections on Departure

Addressing his resignation decision, Awasthi noted:

“This decision wasn’t easy, especially with so much exciting growth on the horizon. Tesla vehicles are incredibly complex systems that often don’t get the credit they deserve, but I’ve witnessed firsthand how they’ve changed lives—for our customers, my friends, and my family—adding real value and, above all, improving safety,”
