Elon Musk Announces Starship’s Role in Building Moonbase Alpha
Elon Musk has declared that SpaceX’s Starship will be responsible for constructing “Moonbase Alpha,” referencing a NASA simulation game while confirming the vehicle’s pivotal role in NASA’s Artemis program to return astronauts to the lunar surface.
In a social media post, Musk wrote: “Starship will build Moonbase Alpha.” This statement directly connects SpaceX’s ambitious plans with NASA’s vision for a sustained lunar presence.
The term “Moonbase Alpha” originates from a free-to-play NASA simulation game launched in 2010, set in a futuristic 2032 lunar outpost where players could experience life as astronauts.
Musk’s post has generated significant public discussion, particularly around his use of the iconic phrase, which now appears to be a direct project goal.
This announcement comes as Starship has been officially selected as the lunar lander for NASA’s Artemis program, tasked with landing the first astronauts on the Moon in over 50 years.
