Sonos has debuted two new speakers, the Sonos Play and the Sonos Era 100 SL, in the US market. Both of them are designed for portability. These can serve as entry points into the Sonos ecosystem, and users can also use them to expand a Sonos multi-room setup. The Play brings long battery life and outdoor durability, while the Era 100 SL is suited for indoor listening and removes built-in microphones to offer a more privacy-focused version of the existing Era 100.

Specifications and features
Sonos Play
The Sonos Play includes two angled tweeters to create stereo separation and improve high-frequency detail, while a dedicated mid-woofer handles mid-range vocals and bass. Sonos has also integrated dual force-cancelling passive radiators to enhance bass output in a compact enclosure while reducing vibration.
For clarity and frequency balance, the speaker uses three Class-H digital amplifiers.
The Play features a far-field microphone array with beamforming and echo cancellation to capture voice. This can be useful for voice assistant control, and there is support for Automatic Trueplay tuning, which automatically adjusts the sound profile based on the ambience and the type of content being played.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, Apple AirPlay 2 and can be controlled through the Sonos app, where users can adjust bass, treble, and loudness levels.
Under the hood, there is a 35Wh battery rated for up to 24 hours of playback on a single charge. It has a USB-C port that can be used for charging, reverse charging, and wired input for a turntable. The included charging base lets the speaker remain docked indoors for regular use.

The Play carries an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, meaning it can withstand temporary immersion in up to one metre of water for 30 minutes. The speaker measures 192 mm in height, 113 mm in width, and 77 mm in depth, and weighs around 1.3 kg. It is available in black and white finishes with a matte exterior.
Sonos Era 100 SL
The Era 100 SL is a simplified version of the Era 100 designed for users who prefer a speaker without built-in mics.
It uses three Class-D digital amplifiers tuned to its internal speaker layout. The system includes two angled tweeters to create stereo separation and a mid-woofer that handles mid-range vocals and bass frequencies.
Users can adjust bass, treble, and loudness through the Sonos app, while Trueplay tuning analyses room acoustics and adjusts the equalisation accordingly.
The IO options include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and Apple AirPlay 2.
The Era 100 SL features capacitive touch controls for playback, volume adjustments, and grouping or ungrouping Sonos speakers in a multi-room setup. A dedicated Bluetooth button enables quick pairing with mobile devices.
In terms of physical design, the speaker measures 183 mm in height, 120 mm in width, and 131 mm in depth, with a weight of approximately 1.95 kg. It is available in black and white matte finishes and can be used on its own, paired for stereo sound, or integrated into a larger Sonos home audio or home theatre system.
